We got the timing wrong. Arrived when the monks were mid-prayer, slightly later than we should have, slightly rushed because of road time. And then we just sat down outside and waited. And that half hour — unplanned, quiet, looking at the valley below Thiksey — ended up being more than the visit itself. The tour package of Ladakh had it listed as a forty-minute stop. We stayed two hours. Nobody minded.
