It wasn't on my radar for a long time. Vietnam was — Hanoi, Hoi An, the obvious ones — but Phu Quoc felt like a footnote somehow. I'm not sure why. The Phu Quoc tour packages that include the south of the island especially tend to get overlooked in favour of the resort strip, which is a shame because the quieter end has a completely different feeling. Slower. More local. More real, maybe.
