From 20 January 2027, machinery placed on the EU market must meet Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. Machine builders need supplier evidence to complete their conformity work before then, so documentation requests are already reaching component suppliers. Some of those requests are legal requirements. Many are contractual asks. What a supplier owes depends on classification: → Safety components listed in Annex II and sold separately need an EU Declaration of Conformity and CE marking. → Partly completed machinery needs an EU Declaration of Incorporation, assembly instructions and Annex IV Part B technical documentation. → Ordinary parts usually provide contractual evidence such as test data or a certificate of conformance. Control, drive and sensor suppliers should also expect cybersecurity evidence requests under Annex III §1.1.9 and §1.2.1. Our new guide explains how to separate legal duties from customer requests, and where documentation ends and engineering work begins.
