The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) establishes new packaging compliance standards which manufacturers must follow when they operate in European markets. Starting August 2026, organizations that introduce packaging to the EU market must adhere to mandatory standards which cover recyclability, hazardous substances, product reuse, labeling, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting requirements. Enterprise manufacturers face greater challenges than only redesigning their packaging. The PPWR regulation creates operational demands which require organizations to gather supplier data, achieve complete visibility of their bill of materials, maintain documentation for audits, track per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and other materials, and meet requirements for multiple jurisdictions.
